Alex Gyarmaty

Alex Gyarmaty Rockton, IL Formerly of Beloit Alex Gyarmaty, age 94, of Rockton, IL, died Sunday August 24, 2014 at NorthPointe Terrace. He was a longtime resident of Beloit, WI. Alex was born May 22, 1920 to the late Steven and Louisa (Jager) Gyarmaty in Budapest, Hungary. He came to the United States in March 1937, choosing Beloit, WI for his home. Alex married Mary Louise Jernberg of Rockford, IL on November 14, 1942. She preceded him in death on September 30, 1992. Alex enlisted into the U.S. Navy on May 17, 1944 and served his country until his honorable discharge on February 11, 1946. He was employed by Besly Wells/Bendix for 42 years retiring in 1983. He also taught machine shop, shop math and blueprints at Beloit Vocational School. Alex was a 49 year member of the Beloit Elks Lodge #864 and served the Elks in many different capacities. He assisted coaches with Little League, served as secretary of the Elks Bowling League and was the treasurer of Besly Booster Club. Alex enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and cards, especially gin rummy. He is survived by his children, Steven (Helene) Gyarmaty of Brookfield, WI; Alex (Julianne) Gyarmaty of Lake Zurich, IL; Judy (Michael) Simonds of Janesville, WI; eight grandchildren, Michael (Kara) Gyarmaty, Matthew Gyarmaty, Andy (Kerri Devine) Gyarmaty, Katherine (Jeremy) Swanson, Steven (Sarah) Gyarmaty, Jane Gyarmaty, Jeffrey (Sandy) Simonds, Jeromey (Lisa) Simonds, five great grandchildren, Alex and Will Gyarmaty, Ryan Topdjian, Aaron Simonds and Kendall Simonds; and his sister, Kati (Rudi) Borhi of Budapest, Hungary.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heartland Hospice and NorthPointe Terrace for the care and compassion they gave Alex.

Alex’s Funeral Service will be 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at BRIAN G. MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Rev. Ian Stirrat officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment and full military burial rites will follow in East Lawn Cemetery.
