Betty Whitney

Betty Whitney, age 90, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Premier Rehab & Skilled Nursing. Betty was born in October 18, 1925 to the late Roy and Hazelle (Cole) Burkmen at home in Roscoe. She graduated from Hononegah High School, class of 1946. Betty married Roger Whitney on October 21, 1950 at Gridley Congregational Church in Beloit. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2009. She was an avid baker, donating goods to bake sales for many local organizations including Sun Valley Presbyterian Church where she was an active member for many years. Betty also loved to sing for the Sweet Adeline’s and in the Sun Valley Church Choir. She also sang at worship services at Premiere Rehab and Skilled Nursing where she resided in later years. Betty worked as a cook at Beloit Memorial Hospital for 20+ years. She is survived by her six children, Cindy (Gene) Keller of Beloit, Dexter (Debbie) Whitney of Prairie Village, KS, Mary (Jeff) Booher of Columbus, IN, Tim (Ruthann) Whitney of Beloit, Andy (Sandy) Whitney of Whitewater, WI, and Polly (John) LaBlanc of Verona, WI; 14 grandchildren, Jeremy (Mary), Jenny (Chuck), Jason (Irina), Jolene (Gregg), Bob (Brittney), Emily, Brian (Jennifer), Kevin (Jeanette), Kristofer (Theresa), Michelle (Jon), Sara, Kerry, David and Sarah; 4 great grandchildren; her brother, Richard Burkman; her sister, Pat (David) Behl and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, her parents and her infant sister, Joann. The family would like to thank all the care givers Betty had and the team at Beloit Regional Hospice for the outstanding care they gave Betty. Betty’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2016 at SUN VALLEY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1650 Sun Valley Road, Beloit, with Pastor David Ewing officiating. Friends will be received on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the church. Following the service the cortege will process to Turtleville Cemetery for interment.
