Gladys M. Halbman
Beloit
Gladys M. Halbman, age 93, of Beloit died Saturday February 9, 2013, in Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born March 28, 1919 in Freeport, IL to the late August and Mary (Mulhall) Symanek. Gladys was a graduate of Freeport High School, class of 1937. She married Robert L. Halbman of Beaver Dam WI on October 10, 1942 in the First United Methodist Church of Beloit. He preceded her in death on March 23, 2009 after 66 years of marriage. She was a member of River of Life Methodist Church, AARP, South Beloit American Legion Post 288 and the Homemakers Club. She was employed by Fairbanks Morse & Company, the Beloit YMCA and the City of Beloit, Finance Department, retiring in 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Richard) Rampenthal of Beloit, WI; her son, Glen Halbman of Beloit, WI; a granddaughter, Shari Rampenthal of La Crosse, WI, also nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, two cousins John (Thelma) Mulhall of Monroe and Charles (Mona) Balles of Freeport and many friends.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Robert, two sisters, Wilma Warren and Eileen Bliss and two brothers in law, Harold Warren and William Bliss.
Gladys’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Rev. David Carlson of the River of Life United Methodist Church officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday in the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. The cortege will process to Eastlawn Cemetery for interment. A memorial fund is being established in her name. Please share a memory or a condolence with the Halbman family on our website.
I was saddened to hear of Gladys Passing. I looked after her at BHRC. She was always so independent & strong. She will be missed.
- lori peacockWords cannot express how much I love Gladys! I will miss her forever and love her always. I have know her since I was little from going to church with my grandma. I have worked at BHRC for 10 years and since the day she was admitted to the facility we began what became a special bond. We told each other we loved each other everyday which included a hug and a kiss I’d always place on her forehead. She watched my red headed little girls grow from being in my belly to the 5 and 3 yr olds they are today, they too loved her so much. My 3 year old bought her a Christmas present this past Christmas, which was her own decision to do so. Gladys meant so much to me, so many of my co-workers and family members know the close relationship we had and Gladys let everyone know that I was special to her. She was always there for ne when I needed a shoulder to cry on and to be excited for me when I had joy in my life. She was excited for me of my upcoming wedding which she had planned on attending. She also told me numerous times she missed Bob and didn’t think she’d make it. Even though I am sad, I am also happy for her to be joined again with her husband. I know she will be watching over me on my wedding day and the days and tears after that. There will be a candle and my wedding ceremony during in memory of her. I have so many memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
