Lillis Schwegler
Shopiere, WI
Lillis Schwegler age 101 died Friday, February 1, 2013 at Sun Valley Terrace, Beloit. She was born July 9, 1911 in Chicago and was raised in Indian Ford by her parents, Lewis and Nella (Tazalaar) St. John. Lil was a graduate of Edgerton High School and Janesville Business College. She married Walter Schwegler on March 24, 1933. He died December 11, 1984. Lil lived in the Shopiere-Tiffany area since 1941, and lived in the same house in Shopiere for 55 years (since 1949). Her last employment was as secretary and receptionist at Colt Industries Research Center for 22 years, retiring in 1973.
Lil attended Shopiere United Methodist Church and later became a member of Central Christian Church, and was a member of the Beloit Women of the Moose, Grinnell Hall in Beloit and Sand Castle in South Beloit.
She is survived by a son, Nick (Janet), Roscoe, two daughters, Jean (Lee) Butler, Arbor Vitae, and Nancy (Gerald) Steffensen, Shopiere; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Lil’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sun Valley Terrace and Beloit Regional Hospice for the care they gave Mom.
Lil’s Funeral Service will be Noon on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Rev. David Meding officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday in the Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following the service the cortege will process to Shopiere Cemetery for interment. My condolences to Lil’s family. I have a lot of memories of playing cards at Lil’s house, going to moose meetings, and taking a women of the moose trip to Las Vegas together. Lil was a warm, kindhearted woman and will be sadly missed. Linda Hollenbeck
