Roger Eberhardt Obituary

Roger Eberhardt, age 77, passed away on December 23, 2016 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Roger was born in Sheboygan, WI on June 6, 1939 to Ewald and Anna (Hoffmeister) Eberhardt. He married Sandra Rumney on November 30, 1961. Much of Roger’s life revolved around golf. While attending Sheboygan Central High School, Roger was already an accomplished golfer, winning numerous tournaments including the Sheboygan County Tournament, the prestigious WIAA State Boys Tournament (1955), the Hearst, Jr. Tournament, and the Wisconsin Junior Amateur Championship. Roger earned The Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies and attended the University of Miami at Coral Gables, Florida. While at Miami, knee injuries sidelined him and he returned to Wisconsin, choosing to attend the University of Wisconsin. His golf career at the UW was outstanding, culminating in earning the BIG 10 Championship Individual Title in 1963 as well as becoming the third Wisconsin player ever to win individual medalist honors at a Big Ten Championship (1963) and was named a First Team All-American. Also, while at Madison, Roger was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, the "W" Club, and Choral Union. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. His post-college career included stints as an assistant golf professional in Milwaukee, and then after a move to Green Bay, as a salesman with Proctor & Gamble, numerous financial industry positions, and commercial real estate development. Roger was a member of the Union Congregational Church, Optimist Club, Boys and Girls Club, was a 32 degree Mason and the Tripoli Shrine Club. He continued to enjoy NE WI and State Club Golf Tournaments, and especially the State Father-Daughter, which he won with daughter, Lizabeth. Following retirement, Roger and Sandy moved to Beloit to be closer to family. Of all his accomplishments, he most loved being "Papa" to grandchildren Taylor, Hayley, and Sam, being their biggest cheerleader and supporting their activities with his entire soul. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sandy, daughter Lizabeth (Timothy) Rosenthal, grandchildren Taylor, Hayley, and Samuel, nephews and nieces Steve (Beth) Eberhardt, Eric (Laurie) Eberhardt, Cheryl (Jerry) Rautmann, Dave Eberhardt, Christine (Greg) Kaker, Eileen (Dave) Cattau, Jeff Zavrl, and Joey Zavrl. He was pre-deceased by his parents, in-laws, Jerome and Louise Rumney, brothers Helmuth (Mickey) and Ervin, and sister Marianne (Clarence) Wilde, nieces Jeannie Eberhardt, Kathryn Zavrl, and nephew Michael Zavrl. At Roger’s request, there will be no formal services, however, a Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held at a later date. Roger will be remembered for his generosity and his contribution to Wisconsin Donor Services.
