Athanas "Tony" Georgalas Obituary

Athanas "Tony" Georgalas, age 83 of Avalon, Wisconsin, formerly of Freeport, IL and Samos Greece, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Janesville. He was born April 28, 1936 to the late Constatine and Androniki (Mavangotou) Georgalas in Samos Greece. He was a graduate of Freeport High School and UW Whitewater. Tony married Cecelia Mary Licari on September 23, 1967 at St. Anthony of Padua Parish and St. Constantine Greek Orthodox Church in Rockford, Illinois.  Tony served in the U.S. Marine Reserves. He and his wife owned and operated The Duck Inn Supper Club in Richmond, Wisconsin from 1973 to 1990. Later Tony was employed as a financial advisor for AG Edwards before his retirement. He was an active member of the Whitewater Optimist Club, enjoyed cooking and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Tony is survived by his children, Andrea (Mark) Ferrier, Gus Georgalas, Ann (Kevin) Differt, and Maria (Brian) Welk; grandchildren, Marisa Ferrier, Matthew Ferrier, Mitchell Welk, Lauren Welk, Olivia Differt, and Nathan Differt; sister, Helen (Mike) Piperakis; brother, Jim (Pam) Georgalas and many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Tony's Funeral Service will be 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2019 in the BRIAN G. MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit. Friends will be received on Sunday in the Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.  Burial will be private. A light lunch will follow Tony's service. Please share a memory or a condolence with the family on our website.
