Gregory "Greg" Franklin

Gregory David Franklin, age 58 of Beloit, WI, died of Pancreatic Cancer Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Willowfield Nursing and Rehabilitation in Delavan, WI. He was born April 26, 1953, the son of Eugene and Dolores (Illbeck) Franklin in Janesville, WI. He attended Beloit Memorial High School, class of 1971. Greg enlisted into the US Army in 1972 and was deployed to Germany where he medaled in sharpshooting. He served his Country until his honorable discharge in 1975. He worked in various manufacturing jobs over the years and most recently with United Tool, South Beloit for nine years. Greg was an avid fisherman, His sister claimed, "If fishing were a sport, Greg would be an athlete." He loved the Green Bay Packers, enjoyed reading and bike riding. Greg is survived by his three sisters, Karen (Robert) Abbott, Susan (Allen) Arnold and Lori (Gary) Olson all of Beloit; four brothers, John (Carmen) Franklin of Albuquerque, NM, Mike (Pearl) Reinart of Beloit, Robert Reinart, Jr. of Beloit and Kevin (Suzanne) Kolberg of Rockford; his sister in law, Susan Franklin; his step father, Bob Reinart; three step sons Rob, Emil and James (Amy) Wendt; eight grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard Franklin, his cousin Tony Mather and his Great Nephew, Kaleb Pann. The family would like to especially thank Jill, Stephanie and Sarah and Beloit Regional Hospice for the care and compassion they gave Greg. Time to visit and celebrate Greg’s life will be Monday January 9th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit. Cremation Rites have been accorded. "In these last two months, Greg showed us how to accept death with dignity and grace."
