John "Jack" Hannigan passed away Saturday January 4, 2020 in his retirement community in Lemont. He was born January 19, 1928 to the late Michael and Nellie (Durkin) Hannigan in Chicago , IL. Jack graduated from Harper High School, class of 1946. He married his high school sweetheart Carol Anderson on June 6, 1950. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1996. Jack served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a long-time union member of the Pipefitters Local 597. Jack and Carol were original 40 year parishioners of the St. Bede Parish where all their children attended grammar school. Jack outlasted all of his neighbors and friends from the Scottsdale area and his Kolmar Avenue home.
Jack's three siblings preceded him in death, Bernice (Chuck Connelly), Edward (Kay) and Shirley (Patrick Carroll). He is survived by his four sons, Andy (Linda), John (Bridgette), Michael (Molly) and Bob (Denise). Jack also had 13 grandkids and 8 great grandkids.
The family would like to thank the devoted staff at the Mother Theresa Home that tended to him during his final few weeks.
Jack's Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday January 10, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church 200 E. Illinois Street, Lemont with Fr. Kurt Boras officiating. Friends will be received on Friday in the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Private family interment to follow services at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
