Mary Lynne Roden, age 68, died Tuesday September 18, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital in West Allis after a decades-long battle with kidney disease. Lynne was born March 21, 1950 to the late James and Anna (Gerhardt) Berto in Beloit. She graduated from Beloit Catholic High School, class of 1968. Lynne studied at UW-Rock County, UW-Whitewater, and Edgewood College, earning her Bachelors and then two Masters degrees. She married Terry R. Roden on February 9, 1974 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Lynne is survived by her husband, Terry Roden; her two children, Amanda (Will) Didier and their two children, Harper & Molly, and her son Joshua (Leslie) Roden; her sister Susan Berto and her brother James Berto. She was also blessed to be part of a loving extended family, including her nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. Lynne was preceded in death by her parents.
Throughout her career and her life, God’s light shown through Lynne’s every action. From the many students she reached and cared for deeply, to her beloved friends and colleagues, but above all else her family was changed by her light. Selfless compassion and profound love were evident in her every action, whether it be a hand-sewn costume, a warm meal, or a surprise card in the mail. Lynne’s life was lived with intention, grace, and a deep Catholic faith that guided her through her entire life and final hour. It is her family’s greatest hope now that her light will live on in all that had the great honor of knowing her. May Lynne rest in peace in the loving arms of our Lord God.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Gold and her entire health care team for the care and compassion they gave Lynne.
