Robert W. "Spanky" Schreiber, age 89 died Saturday August 25, 2018in the Veteran's Home in Union Grove. He was born March 19, 1929 to the late Robert E. and Dorothy (Haywood) Schreiber in Madison, WI. Bob graduated from Madison Central High School, class of 1947. He married Helen Mae Teahan on July 10, 1969. She preceded him in death on August 12, 1999.
Bob enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps just prior to the Korean War (The Forgotten War). He fought at the Chosin Reservoir, not only fighting the enemy, but he also had to battle the extreme cold weather. Bob received the Purple Heart for his efforts during the War. He was a member of the Chosin Few Fraternity of Honor. Bob was a proud marine, a life member of the Southwestern Wisconsin Marine Corp League #623. He was also a member of the Devil Dog Pound #170 and a life member of the VFW. Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor. Semper Fi.
He worked for Gardner Baking Company in Madison, the U. S. Post Office in Madison for 12 years and at the Chrysler Plant in Belvidere for 23 years until his retirement in 1991.
He is survived by many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother, Donald and his two sisters, Evelyn & Loretta and his close friend, Marguerite Messer.
His friends would like to thank the staff ay the Veteran's Home in Union Grove for the care they gave Bob.
Bob's Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 in the BRIAN G. MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit. Friends will be received on Friday in the Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Full Military Burial Rites will be accorded by the Marine Corp League in our Liberty Garden on the west side of the funeral home following the funeral. Bob will be interred at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 5, 2018 in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. In lieu of flowers, memorial my be given to the Veteran's Home in Union Grove. Please share a memory or a condolence on our website.
