Alice M. Splan, age 93 of Janesville died Thursday, September 11, 2025 , at Huntington Place in Janesville. She was born October 17, 1931, to the late Saloma Moody (Brown) and Doc Moody in Palatka, FL. Alice married Bill Splan on December 31, 1947, in Camden, GA. After Bill left the US Navy they settled in Palatka, FL to raise their family surrounded by her sisters and extended family. In 1963 a good job opportunity presented for Bill and the family moved to Clinton, WI. She was scared and lonely in the early years but determined to make a loving home for her family. Alice was a hard worker and held a number of jobs over the years to help keep food on the table. Most notably she drove the Avalon school bus route for Clinton Schools for 38 years. She is fondly remembered by generations of former students that rode her bus. An avid crocheter Alice gifted blankets and tablecloths to everyone in her family. She will be remembered by everyone lucky enough to pass through her kitchen as a woman of boundless love.
Alice is preceded in death by the love of her life, Bill Splan, two of their sons, Tanjore Splan & William J. Splan Jr., her parents, and two of her sisters Ozella Plymel and Louise Garrett.
Alice is survived by her sister Reba (Moody) Wilson of Jacksonville FL, four of her children, Ronald (Joyce) Splan of Beloit, WI, Carolyn (David) Cohen of West Bloomfield, MI, Michael (Kelly Reed) Splan of Kansas City, KS and John Splan of Beloit, WI, ten grandchildren, Holly Lesch, Joel Splan, Jeff Splan, Angie Splan, Amanda Splan, Alicia Schroeder, Rebecca Cohen, Daniel Cohen, Josh Splan and Dylan Splan, eighteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
The family sends sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at Huntington Place and Agrace Hospice. The staff and caregivers were kind and so helpful to Alice and her family.
A Celebration of her life will be held, Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the UAW Local 95 Union Hall, 1795 Lafayette St., Janesville, WI, Saturday, November 8, 2025. There will be visitation with the family 11AM to 12PM, a service of remembrance at 12PM followed by a light lunch.
Alice was a longtime supporter of St. Jude’s Hospital and even in the lean years managed to give what she could to help fight childhood cancer.
