Barry F. Helms

Barry Helms age 71, died Wednesday August 9, 2023. He was born January 27, 1952, to Donald and Gale (Temple) Helms in Beloit, WI.  He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1970. He married Cynthia Dwyer on March 8, 1980.  Barry was employed by Alliant Energy for 45 years as a meter technician and retired in 2017. Upon his Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2021, Cindy became his everything. Barry’s pride and joy were his two children.  His life passions were sports and coaching hockey and baseball.  He loved the YMCA where he was a lifelong member and the racquetball champion for many years.  Running, Chicago Bears and Milwaukee Brewers were always a passion and later in life, his energy turned to his beloved dogs and taking them for walks.  He didn’t like to travel far, but he enjoyed visiting Cancun, Mexico. 

He is survived by his wife Cindy Helms; son, Brett (Monir), daughter, Betsy (Tom) Quintana, grandchildren, Brody, Brooks, Olivia, and Emma; mother, Gale; brothers, Randy, Butch and Don, and Aunt, Joan Helms.

He was preceded in death by his father, sister, Anne, and father-in-law Bruce Dwyer.

Barry’s Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2023, at OUR SAVIOR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 749 Bluff Street Beloit with Rev. Larry Froemming officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at Church from 12 noon until the time of service. Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family who will designate them to his favorite charities. Friends are welcome to celebrate Barry at Tilleys after the service between 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared on our website.
