Donald K Seeger Obituary
Donald Keith Seeger, 88, passed away on May 16, 2026 at Beloit Memorial Hospital.
Don (aka “Donnie”) was born February 14, 1938, the son of Harry and Oriet (Lee) Seeger at home in Red Lake Falls, MN. He graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1956 and from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, in 1960. On June 5, 1960 he married Hope Ione Kvidt in Twin Valley, MN at Zion Lutheran Church. Although both Don and Hope were attending Concordia at the same time, they didn’t meet until they were both working as assistants to the cook at Camp Minne-wa-Kan on Lake Andrusia. Each evening after work, Don would take Hope out in the canoe, where he would sing and play harmonica.
“Herr Seeger” spent 32 years teaching German at Clinton High School, and for many years prior taught German and History in Scobey, MT, Ely, NV, Finley, ND, and Karlstad, MN, and received a Fulbright Award to teach English in Oldenburg, Germany, where the family spent two different years with him. Don sang with the Barbershop chorus for nearly 40 years in Beloit, Janesville, and Milton, and was a member of The Scholastic 4, a teaching quartet visiting area churches, schools, and retirement communities after he had retired from teaching. He was a longtime member of Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church in Poplar Grove, IL, where he sang with the senior choir and was a member of church council.
Don enjoyed gardening, trivia, Jeopardy, many kinds of music, playing cards and other games, spending time with family and friends, and travelling. He and Hope travelled, often with their sons, to 40 states and 22 countries, including a trip to Wittenburg, East Germany to attend the festivities for the 450th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation in 1967. He led many student and adult tours to Germany and other countries.
Survivors include wife Hope, sons Andrew Seeger of Clinton, Timothy (Jennifer) Seeger of Omaha, NE, and Joel (Brooke) Sahlstrom Seeger of Clinton; sister Judy (Stan) Lundmark; grandchildren Reese, Davin, and Claire Seeger; and close family friend Shane Lundeberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carolyn, and his brother-in-law David (Judy) Nelson.
Don was a wonderful, generous, and thoughtful man, with keen wit. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, 13 June, 2026 at 11AM at Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church with Visitation on Friday, 12 June from 5PM – 7PM and Saturday, 13 June from 10AM to 11AM.
