Doris Forbes Obituary

Doris Forbes, a long-time resident of Beloit, WI, died early Friday morning, June 28, 2024, at Advocate IL Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. She was born February 3, 1931, to Robert and Sophia Stimm in Athens, WI.  She moved to Beloit, WI at an early age and excelled in academics and sports. She was voted “Most Athletic Girl” of her 1948 high school class and thoroughly enjoyed her years on the Beloit Bombers softball team, earning the nickname ‘Bunny’ for her base-running speed. Doris married September 20, 1952, raised three children and was thoroughly engaged in school, sports, community activities, and politics.  She was a founding and active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church, volunteered her time in several community services throughout her life, and held a variety of jobs outside the home.  She became the first woman in 150 years to serve on the Town of Beloit Board of Supervisors serving from 1987 through 1995.  At age 65 Doris began participating in the Senior Olympics. She holds nine Wisconsin Senior Olympics State Records in track events and earned over 400 Senior Olympic medals.

 Doris is survived by her sons Michael (Ronda) and Daniel (Mitch Makowski), her daughter Karen (David) Wylie; and her five grandchildren: Holly, Merry, and Nicholas Forbes; Jake and Kathryn Wylie. 

Doris’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in the Floral Lawns Cemetery Chapel, South Beloit, IL. Interment will be private.  Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared on our website.
