Garreth C. Pankonien age 95 of Beloit, WI passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025. He was born November 14, 1929 in Wausau, WI. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S Army and served as a radio operator and clerk in Occupied Japan following World War II. Upon his discharge, he returned to Wausau, WI where he met and married his wife, Florence “Vi” in November of 1950. The two shared a loving relationship for 75 years with three children, two grandsons, and a great-grandson. As a natural salesman, he began working for AAA in 1958, becoming District Manager for the Beloit office until his retirement in 1988. Garreth was an active member of Atonement Rebels Church Dart ball team, of which he had many trophies that lined the den of his home. An avid Green Bay Packer fan, he was a season ticket holder through the Glory Years of the 1960’s and even attended the 1967 Ice Bowl. He enjoyed traveling and would take his family to the Wisconsin Dell’s, or sometimes Florida or Colorado. He’d later revisit these destinations with his grandchildren. Garreth’s fondest vacation memories, however, were of the times spent in Hawaii with his wife and friends.

Garreth will be remembered fondly. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time gardening and landscaping, attaching a seat to his lawnmower so his grandsons could ride along with him. He also got to experience more adventurous pursuits such as whitewater rafting and piloting a glider in his later years. Never one to miss out on a small prank or joke, his smile and laughter will truly be missed.

The family would like to thank the staff at Beloit Regional Hospice for the care they gave Garreth, and to Jon and Brooke, for being wonderful neighbors.
