George Krebs PhD Obituary

George M. Krebs PhD, age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. He is survived by his two daughters and their families: Julianne and Matt Callaway and Kaitlyn (20), Collin (18), and Corinne (14) of Kirkwood, MO, and Laura and Hadi Al-Shathir and Chloe (15), and Chelsea (13) of St. Louis, MO.

George was born on February 22, 1942, to George and Astrid (Arneson) Krebs in Clinton, Wisconsin.  He grew up in Clinton and lived most of his life in Janesville, Wisconsin. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, where he met his wife, Carolyn Langley.  After marrying in June of 1967, George and Carolyn earned graduate degrees from the University of Missouri, with George earning his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

Dr. Krebs counseled patients and helped lead the Rock County Counseling Center as Director of Outpatient Mental Health Services. Throughout his life, and continuing after his retirement in 2007, he was a source of support and a thoughtful listener and counselor to many. He connected in a meaningful way with people throughout his life, forging long-lasting friendships and strong bonds with those who cared for him.

He taught his daughters to work hard, have faith in ourselves (with him being our biggest champion and supporter), take care of our families, eat delicious food, grow a beautiful garden, appreciate the changing of the seasons, play cards, and know the importance of life-long skills, such as playing the piano.

George was a proud grandfather of five grandchildren.  We are thankful that in his retirement years he lived close by to see them grow and for them to build memories with their grandpa.

He was a devoted son, dear brother and uncle, beloved and comforting father and grandfather, and a kind friend to many. George had a dry and witty sense of humor and was strong, resilient, and wise.

Dad will be forever missed, but the endearing love and support he bestowed on his family will remain in our hearts forever.
