Roscoe, IL – Joan Elsie Hilmer, age 93 passed away on May 6, 2026 while at her home surrounded by her family. 

Joan was born on March 17, 1933 in Beloit, WI the eldest daughter of  Earl and Blanche (Blackmore) Stouffer.  She graduated from North Boone High School in Capron, IL in 1950.  She married Benjamin Hilmer  on August 21, 1954 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Beloit.  Benjamin preceded her in death on December 20, 2016. 

Joan and Benjamin took square dancing lessons together and belonged to the Kaleidoscopes square dancing club for several years.  Joan enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Montello, enjoyed music, dancing and their extensive travels to Russia, Germany and other European countries.  She was a member of the Sweet Adeline Singing group and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  But most of all, Joan loved being a grandmother and spending as much time with her family and all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Joan is survived by her 3 children, Rodney (Julie) Hilmer of Edgerton, Dana (Elaine) Hilmer of Beloit and Douglas (Kimberly) Hilmer of Beloit; grandchildren, David Hilmer, Derek (Anna) Hilmer, Melissa (James) Cuellar, Krista (Kyle) Lemke and Jarod (Alex) Hilmer; great grandchildren, Dylan, Cole, Aili, Ethan, Cameron, Felix and Nova. 

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Benjamin and two sisters, Maxine Sager and Geraldine (Dave) Hermanson. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the visiting angels for their care and comfort that helped make mom more comfortable in her final days. 

Memorial services will be held at the Brian Mark Funeral Home, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit WI on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM.  A visitation  will also be held at the funeral home that day from 10:00 AM until the time of services.  Burial will conclude later at the Roscoe Cemetery.
