John McKillips Obituary

The unexpected passing of John A. McKillips at the age of 55 on March 7, 2024, leaves heartache and voids in our family, friendships, and community. John was born May 9, 1968, to Charles and Barbara (Beedy) McKillips in Beloit, WI. He attended Turner High School. John’s life story was written on the engines and tailpipes of countless cars, in the country classic song lyrics he loved to belt out completely out of tune on Sunday mornings, on the pavement of the open road he loved, and in the mountains, he visited while longing for the John Wayne lifestyle. His knowledge and skills in the industry was well known, respected, and always appreciated, from his physical labor, even the kanuter pump, winter air, and blinker fluid advice that brought him great laughter. John’s business and after-hours social life landed him a known staple in the many local establishments as he had a love for live music. After meeting John, you were religiously “brother or darlin” the next time you encountered him followed by one of his famous hugs and a genuine inquiry on how life was treatin’ ya! He would then fill you in on the latest of his children and grandchildren’s lives with pride in his voice and that twinkle in his bright blue eyes.

John’s legacy of that charismatic smile behind the beard and great hugs will live on through his children; Mark, Garret, Megan (Austin) Fairbert, and Morgan (Cole) Gerber, grandgirl Kylee, and grandboys Casen, Maverick, Weston, and Asher. John also leaves behind his mother, Barb McKillips, brothers Chuck Jr and Scott (Kathy) McKillips, first love and mother of his children, Dana, his four-legged companion Sasha (better known as princess), nieces, nephews, and numerous extended family and friends from all aspects of his life. What a reunion it must have been with his dad, Chuck McKillips, the twins that he and Dana lost, grandparents, aunts, and other hot rod enthusiasts.

Whether you were a part of John’s life for a single lyric or a whole song, just know you left a positive impression with him just as he did with you. John’s words and actions were as genuine as they came. So, carry on his memory with a big tight hug, and do more of things that make your heart happy. Please cherish those you love, take those trips, and enjoy your life like John did. He would want it that way!
