Lawrence “Larry” Eddy Carlson, age 75, passed away at home in Shopiere, WI, on February 15, 2025. Born in Beloit in 1950 to Robert and Jeanette (Eddy) Carlson, Larry spent nearly his entire life at the red house on Creek Road in Shopiere—a place that held his heart and countless memories.
Larry attended Shopiere Grade School and graduated from Clinton High School in 1968. His lifelong passion for cars led him to MATC, where he earned a degree in Automotive Technology. He got his start under the mentorship of Gene Hemmerling, working at Hemmerling’s Gas Station and later Hemmerling’s Automotive. In the summer of 1989, he found a great friend in Chet King, and together they built L&C Automotive—a business that became as much a part of Larry’s life as his own family. Even after retiring, he couldn’t resist spending his mornings at the shop lending a hand, catching up with customers, and sharing a few of his legendary stories. And if he wasn’t at the shop, you’d likely catch a glimpse of him on his daily drives through Shopiere and Clinton—or at least the top of his head and his cigar.
Larry was known for his incredible work ethic, quick wit, and ability to make just about anyone laugh. He gave his all—whether it was helping Grandpa Eddy on the farm, taking care of his customers, or simply being present for those he loved. A rock music enthusiast, classic car aficionado, and racing pigeon hobbyist, Larry had a way of making life a little more fun for everyone around him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Vicki, children Andrea and Matt (Suzan Rahn), granddaughters Ariana and Charlotte, sister Tyra (Robert) Gariepy, nieces Laura Gall, Kristin Hart, Erica Mielke, Katie (Andy) Saunders, nephew James (Brenda) Bostwick, Sr., sisters-in-law Susan (Tom) Greening and Pam Bostwick, aunt Ruth Ann (Wes) Parker, and many great nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Chris Carlson, sister-in-law Josie Mielke, and nephews Erik Carlson and Jon Bostwick.
Larry’s impact on his family, friends, and community is immeasurable. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered in every story told, every car fixed, and every laugh shared in his honor.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to Beloit Regional Hospice for the loving care and support they gave Larry.
