Mary Lou J. Callahan age 76, of Beloit died Monday August 20, 2018 at Beloit Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 23, 1942 to the late James and Florence (Hahn) Gjere in Spring Grove, MN. Mary Lou graduated from Beloit High School, class of 1959. She married John "Jack" Callahan on August 7, 1960 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. Mary Lou was a longtime member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. Mary Lou worked as a secretary at WI Power & Light and the Beloit Corp. She also worked as a sales rep at WGEZ & WREX-TV and was employed for many years at the Beloit Daily News as an advertising rep until her retirement in 2016. Mary Lou was active in the Beloit Chamber of Commerce and worked diligently at making Beloit a better place to work and live. She enjoyed shopping, arranging flowers and collecting baskets & candles.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jack Callahan; her three children, Jacki Kersting, John (Rhonda) Callahan and Jerry Callahan; five grandchildren, Becky (Justin) Fletcher, Craig Kersting, Jr., Ronni (Justin) Hill, Crystal Mahlum and Jason Kersting; three great grandchildren, O'Ryan, Mason and Alicia; her sister, Vicki (Mark) Berryman and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Aleta.
Mary Lou's Funeral Service will be 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2018 in the BRIAN G. MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Rev. Randy Senn officiating. Friends will be received on Friday in the Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in her name.
