Beloit – Robert Leroy Wessels Sr., age 91, passed away on April 5, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 29, 1935, in Iowa, to George and Rose Wessels. He married Shirley Coe on December 28, 1970. 

Robert enjoyed watching westerns, the Brewers, and the Packers. He loved working for the city of Beloit for 20+ years. Robert looked forward to spending time with his family and Shirley was his whole world. He was an avid gardener and spent many afternoons in his garden.  

Robert is survived by his children; Robert (Julie) Wessels, Valerie Burchette, Vance (Lenore) Hirst, and Victor Hirst, 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren.  

Robert is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; children Betty Ellefson and Mark Wessels, Two grandchildren, Trina Hirst and Victor Hirst Jr, siblings; Marlin, Richard, Don, Phyllis, and Raymond.  

A public graveside service will be held at Floral Lawns Cemetery, 845 Dearborn Ave, South Beloit, IL 61080, on Tuesday April 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
