Ruth "Betty" E. Cunningham

Ruth E. "Betty" Cunningham passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Thursday, July 26, 2018 in her home in Milwaukee, WI. She was born May 30, 1930 to the late William and Ruth (Wilkinson) Doris in Prairie du Chien, WI. Betty was a graduate of Madison Central High School, class of 1949. She married William M. Cunningham on September 14, 1949 in Beloit, WI, who passed into the arms of the Lord on May 15, 1994. Betty worked as a Realtor for Voss Agency, and in Customer Service for Community State Bank, Beloit State Bank, Blackhawk State Bank, and First National Bank, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the Rachel Circle, the Prayer Chain, was a past Ladies Aide, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, until she transferred to Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI.

Betty was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. She was devoted to her family and delighted in spending time with them. She was a gifted singer, seamstress, and crafter, who gave us many treasures--not the least of which was bearing witness to her steadfast faithfulness and courage through her journey.

She is survived by her four children, William (Joanna) Cunningham, Barbara (Gary) Szymanski, Robert (Ellen) Cunningham, and Brenda (Jeffery) Hanson; six grandchildren, Bradley, Kevin, Jonathan, Caitlin, Aaron, and Megan; two great grandchildren, Ryan and Rachel; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband William, her parents, stepfather, and one brother in infancy.

A service to honor Betty's life will be celebrated at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1531 Townline Avenue in Beloit on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dan Eddy officiating. Friends will be received in the Church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The cortege will process to East Lawn Cemetery for internment.
