Timothy "TAT" Thorwald Obituary

Timothy Allen Thorwald, (aka TAT) 69, of Beloit, left his earthly home on August 11, 2022. He was born June 23, 1953 to Mervin A and Ella E (Carlson) Thorwald in Wiesbaden, Germany where his father was stationed. He graduated from FJ Turner high school in 1971 where he met Jane, the love of his life.  They were married December 7, 1974. They had three children, daughter Tracy and sons Travis and Jamison.  After various jobs, he found the one he loved at Evonik Chemical Company as a reactor operator. He worked very hard providing for his family, retiring after 36 years in 2015 at age 62. Even at that young age, vascular dementia was creeping into his life.

Tim loved music and loved sharing it even more. As soon as there was such a thing as a CD burner, he had one. He would take songs from his vast library to create a mix. From there he mastered it on his computer. Creating playlists and burning them to cd’s to then share with friends and family was one of his greatest passions.  One that many of the recipients are still enjoying.  He and Jane also loved live music, at first traveling to venues to see their favorite bands and later became regulars at “Monday Night Blues” in Beloit.  Tim LOVED working in his yard. He would spend hours planting, trimming, weeding and creating numerous patio spaces and garden areas. Then he and Jane would sit outside enjoying the fruits of his labor with a cold beer at the end of the day.  Tim was also a softball and baseball coach for his kids, participating in Beloit Girls Softball, Cub ball, Beloit Boys Baseball and Turner High School JV girls softball. He loved every minute of it, making sure every kid felt like a valued member of the team.  Tim loved riding his Harley.  Tim and his Jane could also be found hanging out at their favorite Tilley’s Pizza House for a “kitchen sink”, a bucket of beer and swapping stories with the many friends they met there.  Tim and Jane always did things together and they loved it that way.

Since his retirement, even with the dementia, Tim made the most of his life and continued making great memories with family and friends until it stole his ability to walk in October 2021. Even being bedridden didn’t hamper his sweet disposition and sense of humor. He was never robbed of his most precious memories and the love he had for Jane, family and friends. He will be remembered for his amazing smile, his quick wit, those music cd’s and excellent campfires. He lived life on his own terms. He was loved and will be missed by many.

Tim is survived by his wife Jane, daughter Tracy (Josh) Buck, and sons Travis and Jamison, all of Beloit, granddaughter Gabriella Buck (Jake Hoffman) of Madison and grandson Jordan Buck of Tucson, AZ; his sister Deborah Martin of Oshkosh, brothers in law Mark (Pat) Simonson, and Fred (Sue) Simonson, sister in law Ellen (Randall) Thomson, his very, very special aunt Ann Marie Alford and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and life long friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mervin and Ella Thorwald, in laws Leroy and Gini Simonson and brother in law Greg Martin.
