Vernon Ray Schmuck Jr. (Vernie), 63, of Clinton, passed away unexpectedly September 17, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. Vern was born on March 13, 1960 to Vernon and Shirley (Salisbury) Schmuck. After Vern graduated from Clinton High School in 1978, he worked at various places until he opened VERN-NIE’S CORNER in 1996. He was an entrepreneur for most of his life and was a very talented fabricator and welder.
Vern was a man who loved tractors, specifically Deutz. You could always find him at your local truck and tractor pull, whether he was pulling his Deutz D13006 tractor, in the pits, or critiquing from the sidelines. Vernie loved his local taverns as much as they loved him, he was a man of many unique phrases also referred to as “Vernonism’s.” Many people admired the “Schmuckster’s” mechanical problem-solving abilities; often said to be google before google existed.
Vern’s proudest accomplishments were his three children, Ben (Kristy), Justin (Jenn), and Jessica (Grant). He is also survived by his siblings, Patty (Warren) Beckes, Susan Lind, Bill Schmuck, Julie (Greg) Owen, his sister-in-law Linda Doubleday. His beloved grandchildren McKenzie (Austin), Victoria (Rhett), Emma, and Myla. He also had many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, siblings, Paul, Edgar, and Robert Doubleday. Additionally, his brother-in-law, Don Lind, and many friends.
Vern’s funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Brian Mark Funeral Home, 1000 E Inman Pkwy, Beloit. Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 22, 2023 in the funeral home from 4-7 p.m., and again on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
